4-Day Atlas Mountains Road Cycling Tour - Morocco

Embark on a thrilling 4-day road cycling adventure through the stunning High Atlas Mountains of Morocco. Your journey begins in the historic city of Marrakech, over 1,000 years old. Cycle through the vibrant Medina, then head towards the imposing Atlas Mountain slopes. Ride through the flat Haouz plains before being challenged by Morocco’s highest roads, offering stunning views and exciting climbs.

Along the way, you’ll discover lush Berber valleys, rugged high plateaus, and experience the traditional local way of life. Immerse yourself in authentic Berber architecture and landscapes of rare beauty.

This cycling tour takes place in the breathtaking High Atlas Mountains, just a short drive from the vibrant city of Marrakech. The region offers hundreds of miles of scenic roads, perfect for exploring by bike. With years of guiding experience, your local hosts will help you unlock the hidden riding potential of this spectacular landscape.

Start Point:
You will be collected from your accommodation in Marrakech at 09:00 AM.

Finish Point:
You will be transferred back to Marrakech for around 5:00 PM at the end of your adventure.

Food

All meals will be prepared for you. If you stay in a local gite, the family running the gite will prepare a delicious Moroccan meal for you. All food will be prepared by an experienced cook.

Accommodation

During this bike adventure, you will be staying in a guest house in the Berber village, but we can also update the accommodation suits your needs.

We recommend packing the following items:

Normal daily clothes

Padded cycling shorts and gloves

Breathable top or cycling jersey

Sunglasses/eye protection

Stiff-soled shoes suitable for cycling

Waterproofs and long cycling trousers

For the earlier departures you may need some warmer layers

Water bottle

Energy cycling gels offer a quick form of crabs replenishment. Most contain the simple crab sugar, which is the fastest form of energy to replace glycogen. It’s suggested that people who cycle at a moderate intensity for more than 90 minutes, need to replace between 30g and 65g of carbohydrates per hour and we would thoroughly recommend bringing some of these with you, as well as some energy bars.

All visitors to Morocco are required to have a valid passport. However, nationals from the following countries do not need to obtain a visa prior to arrival:

For tourists from countries that do require a visa to enter Morocco, it is advisable to apply through the nearest Moroccan Embassy. Visas are typically valid for 3 months and processing takes around 5-6 working days. Tourists may stay in Morocco for up to 90 days, although visa extensions can be a lengthy and complex process.

Note: Some travelers find it easier to exit Morocco through the Spanish-controlled cities of Ceuta or Melilla and re-enter, thereby receiving a new entry stamp.

We highly recommend that you obtain Travel Insurance to cover unexpected costs due to illness, accident, lost luggage, trip interruption or cancellation. Overseas residents must obtain insurance cover in their home country.

Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Ourika – Oukaimeden

After breakfast at the hotel, short transfers take us into the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and cross the Ourika valley, which is a regular challenge for local Marrakech road bikers. we reach the little villages of Adrar and the starting place of our uphill ride, this first day of biking is brilliant and starts with a steady 2 – 3 hour climb to Ski resort(2600m). along the way there are good views and an unmissable photo opportunity, Passing through a picturesque landscape, with several Berber villages, overnight in Oukaimeden.


Day 2: Ourika – Asni

Short transfers take us from Ouka to Imi n Lghar where we start bike, you will climbs steadily along the mountainside and genteelly gain altitude through some impressive views across the Atlas Mountains and the Berber villages. As we reach our highest point at the Tizi n’Tadmamt (1813m), you will have a more relaxed section following the contours of the mountain hillsides overlooking the superb views stretching towards the Haouz Plains far north. After Sidi Fares, we will enjoy an amazing downhill section to Asni overnight in Riad in Asni.


Day 3: Asni – Ouirgane

We head out on one of the most famous climbs in the Atlas, the Tizi-n-Test pass. We will set out after breakfast heading up 40 KM to the halfway point of Tinmel. This mountain top village is famous in Moroccan history as Tinmel was the cradle of the Berber Almohad Empire. This is the village from where the Almohad started their military campaigns against the rulers of Marrakech the Almoravids in the early 12th century. An ancient mosque still remains in Tinmel from that time and is now a UNESCO heritage site. From there on to the climb and a photo at the 2100 M peak 71 KM out from our start. A break at the café and then it is back down the way we came with views of the Ouirgane valley in front this time. Back to our hotel.


Day 4: Ouirgane – Kik Palteau – Marrakech

Our ultimate day will lead us to the heights of the superb Kik Plateau. After a good breakfast, we start cycling on the little road snaking up towards the shrine of Moulay Brahim. This is a holy place where a well-known Moroccan Sufi saint was buried. It’s a famous place that attracts a lot of pilgrims from all over Morocco. At the highest spot of the ride we will cross the magnificent limestone plateau with the often snow capped Toubkal peaks in the background. The ride across the terraces will be punctuated by few villages before we reach the western end of the Kik. From now on, it’s a long decent to reach the Takerkoust lake where our cycling adventure end. After packing our bikes, a short transfer will lead us to the exciting Marrakech and your Riad in the Medina of Marrakech at 5mn on foot from the main attractions: Jemaa El Fena Square, the souks, Bahia Palace…


Things to keep in mind

Cancellations will require notification to be done in writing by the person taking the tour. There will be no refunds once a tour has commenced. Therefore, we recommend you take out comprehensive insurance cover for cancellation, medical expenses, personal accident and baggage and public liability.

Cancellations by the Client(s)

Notification of any cancellation must be made in writing by the client(s).
If the cancellation occurs more than 56 days from the departure date, the client(s) are liable for 20% of the cost of the trip.
If the cancellation occurs between 56 days, but more than 28 days from the departure date, the client(s) are liable for 50% of the cost of the trip.
If the cancellation occurs between 28 days, but more than 14 days from the departure date, the client(s) are liable for 75% of the cost of the trip.
If the cancellation is made 14 days or fewer from the departure date the client(s) are liable for 100% of the cost of the trip.
Failure to arrive at the scheduled departure point at the scheduled time will be deemed as cancellation by the client(s), and as such the client(s) are liable for 100% of the cost of the trip.
If the client(s) do not participate in any part of the trip as agreed at the time of booking, the client(s) are not entitled to any refund.


Reservations

By booking a tour with us (referred to in these conditions as “we” or “us”) you will be accepting these conditions on behalf of yourself and all other persons using our services pursuant to a booking made by you.

Booking Procedures & Payments

Once you agree on the quoted itinerary and price, we will raise a detail itinerary and invoice with payment details. Your booking will be confirmed when we receive 20% deposit of your invoice.
We accept payments by wire transfers to Our Bank Account (payable in US $, Euro)

Changes to your booking

We will make all possible to make amendments to your booking with no additional charges. However, travel within 15 days of the start of your trip it might not be feasible.
If you need to make changes, please contact us as soon as possible and confirm to us your request in writing. Again we will try to accommodate you so there are no extra charges, but we cannot guarantee it.
If changes are not possible to make in your booking, for whatever reason, you have the choice of proceeding with your holidays originally booked or cancelling and paying the cancellation charges as mentioned below.

Note: This itinerary and the duration of the activities are subject to change due to group abilities and preferences, and weather conditions and forecasts.

Kindly note that a minimum of 3 participants is required for the retreat to proceed.
