Retreat theme: “Liminal Spaces - Where Earth Meets Sky”

On this Morocco Retreat, Kathy & Betty invite you to embark on a transformative journey, exploring the concept of liminal spaces—where the earth meets the sky. Inspired by the dramatic Atlas Mountains, Berber heritage, and the rich natural environment, our creative sessions will not only unveil layers of meaning, culture, and personal insight but also foster a deep connection to the place. Using words and gestural painting as tools for expression, self-discovery and transformation, we will focus on the intersection of the physical and metaphysical, the tangible earth and the expansive sky – inspiring personal growth and creative exploration.

Creative sessions with Kathy will reference the landscape’s interplay of light and shadow, echoing the dance between the seen and unseen. Connecting to the land itself, we will use local pigments and minerals alongside inks and, of course, water—lots of water—the foundation of life. Without water, nothing thrives; with it, everything is possible.

Through wordsmith sessions with Betty we will explore our inner sanctuary, a fertile ground where ideas, emotions, and inspirations take root. We will use the art of letting go calligraphically to reflect on the interplay of earth, sky, and the self. Using mirrors/ reflective materials that "merge" sky and earth visually, we can ultimately see ourselves in a different light.

Daily yoga sessions led by Nina will synthesize with and explore the themes introduced in Betty and Kathy’s workshops, cultivating a cohesive, immersive experience for us all. This combined artistic journey deepens the retreat experience, honoring local traditions while offering a transformative exploration of self and space.
