The cycling tour of the west Balkan triangle is a tour designed for small groups of cyclists and it is a guided SAG tour (it includes car and gear support).

This tour takes place in 3 different countries: Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro.

Start & end in Dubrovnik

Daily cycling distances: 40 – 75 km, cycling difficulty: moderate with some challenging parts

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival

Meet and greet at the Dubrovnik Airport and transport to your hotel in Dubrovnik.

You will get to spend the rest of the day at your own leisure.

Dinner with the group, introduction of the trip.

Day 2 Cycling from Dubrovnik to Herceg Novi (through Bosnian territory)

Cycling distance: 65km, elevation gain: 910m.

Breakfast in the hotel, a short ride to the outskirts of the city where we will start our cycling tour, cycling in the direction of the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina and the town of Trebinje.

Cycling through the hillside part of the triangle of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Croatia, in the direction of the town of Herceg Novi, located on the Montenegrin coast.

Overnight stay at a 3/4* hotel in the Herceg Novi area.

Meal plan: breakfast (B), lunch (L) (snacks)

Day 3 Montenegrin coast (from Herceg Novi along the Bay of Kotor to the town of Kotor), cycling distance: 50km, elevation gain 200m.

Cycling along the coastal area of the Bay of Kotor (Montenegrin fjord) to the town of Kotor. The bike ride will mainly be on flat terrain. We will follow the road along the Bay of Kotor, which passes through medieval historical towns. After a short stop in the town of Kotor, we will cycle back to our hotel.

Overnight stay at a 3* hotel in the area of the town of Kotor.

Meal plan: breakfast (B) + lunch snacks

Day 4 Montenegro – Croatia, cycling distance: 70km, elevation gain 755m.

After breakfast we will check out from the hotel and cycle along the bay in the direction of the border with Croatia. Once we cross the border, we will cycle through the Konavle countryside, a very picturesque area between the mountains and the Adriatic Sea.

Arrival in the town of Cavtat. In the afternoon you will get a chance to explore this medieval town at your own leisure.

Overnight stay in the Cavtat area at a 3* hotel.

Day 5 Croatia – Bosnia and Herzegovina, cycling distance: 57km, elevation gain 150m.

After breakfast we will start our bike ride from the coastal town of Cavtat to the hillside part of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Once we cross the border in the village of Ivanica, we will continue to cycle following the old railroad trail through the valley of Popovo polje and along the Trebišnjica River. In the 1990s, this area was a war zone and along this route, there is still evidence which is reminiscent of that time. Besides interesting historical facts, this part of the route includes a beautiful landscape which is different to the one of the coastal areas.

Arrival in the small village of Zavala. Free time in the afternoon.

Overnight stay in a cosy B&B (this is the only available accommodation on this part of the route).

Day 6 Zavala – Ston (Bosnia and Herzegovina, return to Croatia), cycling distance: 40km, elevation gain 630m.

We will cycle along the valley and the rural areas of Herzegovina towards the border with Croatia, the Pelješac peninsula and the town of Ston. This area is famous for several things: the town of Ston is a medieval town with the longest walls in Europe, it is the first town on the Pelješac peninsula where they produce excellent red wines. In the area surrounding the town of Ston, there are oyster bays and mussel farms.

This bike ride is one of the shortest ones, but it features a hillside part of the route with nice climbs and hill descents.

Arrival in Ston, free time, a possibility of oyster tasting and a sailing trip to oyster farms.

Overnight stay at a 3* hotel in Ston.

Meal plan: breakfast (B) + lunch snacks

Day 7 Ston – around the Pelješac peninsula to Orebić, cycling distance: 60km, elevation gain 900m.

There is option of shorter cyclin route, cycling distance 32km, elevation gain 400m.

Cycling around the Pelješac peninsula is one most scenic bike rides in the Mediterranean. It has everything, from nice roads to spectacular views of the islands and the open sea, scenic rides through the vineyards and through the old villages or towns in the hidden bays.

The bike ride ends in the town of Orebić around lunchtime.

In the afternoon we will take a shuttle (minibus) to Dubrovnik. Arrival in Dubrovnik in the evening hours.

Overnight stay at a 3/4* hotel in Dubrovnik.

Day 8 Departure

Breakfast in the hotel and a morning shuttle to the Dubrovnik Airport.

Guests right to change or cancellation

About cancellations: If a guest wants to cancel the services booked, this should be done in a written form (e-mail, fax or mail). The date when the agency received a written notice of cancellation is the basis for making the bill of cancellation costs in the following way:

65 days + prior to trip departure: Refund of what you have paid (trip deposit) minus EUR 50,00 processing fee per person.

64 - 45 days prior to trip departure: we charge 50% of your payments (trip deposit) and EUR 50 processing fee per person.

44 – 31 days prior trip departure, a trip deposit is not refundable

30 days before trip starts, we require trip balance

30 – 10 days prior to trip departure: we charge 75% of your total payments and EUR 50 processing fee per person.

9 - 0 days prior trip departure: No refund.

In case if we need to cancel the booking of the trip, we will refund you PRICE paid in advance for the trip. We do not refund bank transfer expenses or credit card fee.

Tourist Offer

Activ Retreats offers the services of mediation and booking on behalf of the provider of services and to their benefit and in this way provides accommodation and tour packages for guests in accordance with the information found on the web pages of activretreats.com except in the state of emergency and due to unexpected circumstances. Activ Retreats tries to be as specific as possible when describing their tours and trips. By paying for one or more tours and trips from our program, you assume a legal obligation towards us and you confirm that you agree with the general conditions of providing travel arrangements and services which are here presented to you. All the items from the tour package present a legal obligation both for the guest and the agency. These conditions are the basis for resolving any possible disputes that may occur between us, therefore please be sure to read them.

Booking and Payment

Reservations can be made by sending an e-mail, fax message or by coming to our office or the offices of our partner-agencies, which are authorized to sell the tours and trips we offer. When making a reservation the guest has to supply all the information required. After receiving a confirmation of the booking, we will send you a requisition form for making the advance payment. To make the reservation valid it is necessary to make the minimum advance payment in the amount of 30% of the full price. After the receipt of the advance payment, you will receive a voucher containing all the necessary information about the reservation.

Balance of the Service

For tours and other services from our offer you have to pay the remaining part of the total sum at least 21 days before the service is required. On receipt of the entire amount the agency will mail you the original Voucher to your address. You should hand in this Voucher directly at the representative of the agency upon arrival to Croatia.

Insurance

Please be sure that you have valid travel insurance, our company does not provide travel insurance (but it is possible on request).
Health and Fitness: You should be in good physical health to participate in our trips, with trip confirmation you confirm that you take trip activity (cycling, hiking, or sea kayak…) at your own risk. Please discuss any health and medical questions you may have with your doctor prior to your trip and upon arrival with our representative.

Level: Moderate with some challenging parts. Daily cycling distances: 40 – 70 km
