This active trip requires a certain level of fitness, with hiking and cycling experience recommended. Travelers should also be able to swim. Luggage will be forwarded to the next destination on some hikes, so carrying an overnight pack is necessary. Hiking distances range from 3-15km per day with elevation changes of 60-900m. Cycling distances are around 30km each. The itinerary includes sections of the Kumano Kodo and Nakasendo Way trails, providing a taste of the experience without multi-day trekking commitments. Some accommodations may be in ryokans, offering a traditional but potentially less familiar experience compared to Western-style hotels.
