Uncharted route

This exclusive trekking expedition follows an uncharted route around the forested northern rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, descending onto the drier north western plains of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will navigate through the Olkerien Gorge, an important nesting site for the Ruppell’s Griffon. The plains of the eastern Serengeti are rich with game in the green season. Therefore, expect to find concentrations of lion, hyena, cheetah and wild dog following the herds as they prepare to give birth.

Close to the Barafu Gorge and Kopjes, trekkers are treated to some of the best vistas in the Serengeti. To top it off, your trek concludes in classic big cat country. Here you have a good chance of spotting the quintessential Serengeti cheetah hunt before you leave.

Fly camping

The Tanzania trekking safari starts and ends in luxury tented camps. However, in true expedition style, while on foot each night is spent in a fly camp. This comprises lightweight tents with ground mattresses or cot beds. The camp is erected by support staff who drive cross country ahead of your trekking group. Once in camp, trekkers enjoy meals under the stars before falling asleep to the whoops and grunts of the wild.

This program is ideal for travelers who are familiar with safari or who are returning to Africa. It is also a great addition to a longer East Africa trip.

About The Host

Chris and Jacqui

Chris dedicates his life to having as much fun as possible. After 13 long years in the commercial catering industry, Chris realized that he had forgotten how to breathe. So in 2001, armed with a desire to enjoy his working hours, he took a deep breath and walked out of the office. Now, as he pounds the ground on a trail run, climbs a rock face, or rides a bicycle, Chris enjoys every breath. As a result, he constantly inspires travelers on his tours with his energy, enthusiasm, and pure enjoyment of life. Chris is a consummate organizer and loves the little operational details that go with managing or overseeing a tour.

After earning a doctorate in molecular biotech, Jacqui served time in the corporate grind of big pharma before discovering tourism. Thanks to 20 years of travel as a guide, tour leader, and trip designer, Jacqui can offer qualified recommendations to the finest destinations and informed insight on experiencing them. Jacqui has a passion for the natural environment and a genuine desire to blend information with experience. This keeps her returning to the road as a guide when not consulting, supporting, or making tea for Active Africans.
