Our activities go beyond physical training to explore the deep historical roots of martial arts. Delving into the influence of traditional Chinese medicine and Taoism on martial arts, students learn about the origins and purpose of martial arts. Activities include lectures and practical classes on Tai Chi, a form of martial arts that blends movement with meditation and is rooted in the principles of balance and harmony. These classes offer participants a unique perspective on the wider cultural context of martial arts.

In addition to martial arts training, our activities include excursions to important cultural sites. Participants will visit Wu Mosquito Village, known for its fascinating history and unique cultural practices. Here, they can witness the simplicity and beauty of rural Chinese life, in stark contrast to the bustling cities they
may be accustomed to. These experiences offer a balanced view of China, covering the ancient and modern, urban and rural. These tours are carefully curated to ensure that each participant leaves with a well-rounded understanding of China’s diverse cultural landscape.

Tai Chi

Based on Taoism and Meridian's theory of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM), Tai Chi is a unique form of boxing inherited by martial arts masters of all generations, which combines the martial arts of traditional Chinese Wushu.

It is characterized by implicit introversion, continuity, and conquering the unyielding with the yielding. It can be quick or slow, and natural and smooth. It enjoys the practical nature of beating a stronger opponent with little effort by clever maneuvers and health preservation effects.

Characteristics of Kung Fu

Tai Chi Boxing is unique for its technical strikes and distinct characteristics. It emphasizes remaining motionless while responding to all motions, conquering the unyielding with yielding, avoiding the opponent's main force, striking at their weak points, and borrowing strength to generate force. It advocates a reactive strategy, where movements come alive through interaction with others but stagnate when acting alone.

Tai Chi Boxing focuses heavily on identifying strength, meaning practitioners must accurately feel and assess the opponent's force in order to respond effectively. If the opponent has not yet acted, it is important not to act prematurely. Instead, the practitioner may use an inducing method to test the opponent’s strengths and weaknesses, a tactic known as "Lead."

When the opponent makes a move, it’s critical to quickly seize the initiative. This means reacting just before the opponent or becoming the latecomer who gains the advantage. By leading the opponent off balance or scattering their strength, one can create an opportunity to respond with full force and counterattack effectively.

The technical strike principles of Tai Chi Boxing are embedded in push-hands training and routine movements, which not only develop physical qualities such as reaction time, strength, and speed but also hold great significance for attack and defense training.

Tai Chi techniques are grounded in the principles of Yin and Yang, upholding the idea of "leading and defusing the opponent’s strength and exerting force" as the main process. By identifying the opponent’s strength and feeling the size and direction of their force, a practitioner can defuse the incoming force, then borrow it to generate their own counterforce.

The eight strengths of Tai Chi:

Arrow quiver(used to dissolve or join forces).

Stroke (used to borrow strength to pull back).

Squeeze(the external force to the lower body).

Press (the external force to the upper body, or as a counter-joint holding method).

Take (to follow the other side’s force to join the force or as a catching method).

Restrain (with the strength of the side arrow quiver to destroy the balance of the other side).

Elbow (with the elbow tip to hit).

Leaning(with the strength before and after the shoulder to hit).

Tai Chi Boxing is a comprehensive subject with the characteristics of the traditional culture of the Han nationality. It involves the problems related to people and society, man, and nature, and the human body itself, including classical literature, physics, health, medicine, martial arts, physiology, psychology, sports biomechanics, and so on. It embodies the cosmological view, life view, moral view, outlook on life, and competitive view of oriental literature.

Adaptability

Tai Chi Boxing movement is soft, and its speed can be fast or slow. Boxing style is not difficult to learn, and its posture of high or low, and its amount of exercise can vary according to the individual physique, so it can adapt to different ages and physique needs. It’s not exclusive to the elderly and the weak.
