A run through Ireland’s only fjord, Killary Harbour, passing sheep farms, homestead ruins, and the beautifully desolate Twelve Bens mountain range. A tour of Kylemore Abbey, a Goth Benedictine nunnery, on a Galway lakefront. Explore Inis Mór, an island off the west coast of Ireland, known for its prehistoric clifftop forts, rectangular natural poo, and centuries old churches. Spend time eating, drinking, and experiencing local pub culture in Dublin, Doolin, and Dingle. Catch a boat ride through the Lower, Middle and Upper Lakes in Killarney National Park and eventually to the Black Valley.
Along Ireland’s wild western edge, ancient footpaths trace dramatic sea cliffs and wind through stone-walled fields where sheep have grazed for centuries. Each day unfolds like an Irish ballad – running past castle ruins and across windswept islands, before evenings of traditional music and perfectly pulled pints in cozy village pubs.
Each person on our small, multinational team brings a unique set of running abilities, travel experience and guiding expertise to the table, but something that we all have in common is an addiction to exploration, a borderline obsession with running and a love of helping others experience the world in this very unique way. Our guides are certified Wilderness First Responders, practice Leave No Trace principles and have guided well over 200 running trips combined. When you join a trip you’ll be traveling, running and exploring with at least one (if not 2 or 3) of us - click below for our bios!
Ireland offers runners an enchanting blend of dramatic coastal cliffs, lively pubs, crumbling castles, and astoundingly green hills. The Classic Route running tour takes you through the core of Ireland’s southwest, exploring the renowned Wild Atlantic Way. Experience rich traditions, cozy B&Bs, and warm locals who’ll make you feel at home wherever you roam.
While there’s no set requirement, we recommend being comfortable with 3-4 runs per week of 4-6 miles (6-10km) each and one longer run of 8-10 miles (13-16km) for the best experience. Daily maximums are listed in the itinerary, and all routes can be shortened if needed.
Expect a mix of dirt/gravel roads, single-track trails, pavement, and some bog. Be prepared for mud and hills! We recommend packing both road and trail shoes for your Irish running adventure.
Your Classic Route tour includes driving along the Wild Atlantic Way, visiting the Aran Islands, learning about rich local history, and enjoying perfectly poured pints alongside locals in traditional pubs with live music.
Irish weather is famously unpredictable but rarely extreme. Summer temperatures are generally mild (highs around 60°F / 15°C, lows around 50°F / 10°C) with the best chance for sunshine. Be prepared for fog, rain, and wind as well – it’s part of the authentic Irish experience!
