Listen to the stories of the ruins you see in front of you - this is a site that can't be missed.
Wake up, have a delicious breakfast and set out to explore the meandering streets of this city known for its artisans and handicrafts. Old meets new on a guided tour of the city as you wander from the 14th century Royal Palace gates to the city gate that was newly built in 1913. After lunch, continue exploring with our local guide who will show you dye pits and tanneries, an impressive medersa in the heart of the medina and the well-known University of Al-Karaouine. Enjoy breakfast at 9am and then head out to explore the town of Ourzazate, the Hollywood of Morocco where several movie studios are located. Just beyond Ouarzazate, make a stop to visit the most photogenic ksar in the world, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Aït Ben Haddou . This traditional pre Saharan habitat is a striking example of the architecture of southern Morocco with its houses crowded together within the defensive walls, which are reinforced by corner towers. Most of the town’s inhabitants now live in a more modern village at the other side of the river; however, ten families still live within the ksar. Here is where movies such as Lawrence of Arabia, Gladiator, and Jesus of Nazareth were filmed, as well as scenes from Game of Thrones. Continue up the winding road through the Col of Tizi Tichka , the highest passage of Morocco and all of North Africa at 7,415 feet before descending to Marrakech. Following a scenic footpath, we descend to Tagadirt village at 1300m above sea level where we'll share mint tea with a local family.
We descend and get back on the road at noon. Free afternoon! Why not try a Hammam treatment?
