7 Days, Multiple Departures
This adventure, which has been carefully prepared by our team, starts on a Sunday and ends the following Sunday morning. During this unforgettable week, you will swim in the most beautiful places in the region, where the water varies between crystal clear dark blue and turquoise, and where you can explore the caves and natural arches of the cliffs – the Desertas Islands Nature Reserve, Ponta de São Lourenço and the Garajau Nature Reserve are just some of these places.
This is a perfect experience for those who want to discover still unexplored and quiet areas in Portugal and enjoy the pleasant sub-tropical climate of the island.
The lodge is situated in the heart of the Garajau Nature Reserve, whose bay also offers an excellent place for swimming.
Mayra Santos and crew offer an impressive portfolio of swimming locations throughout Madeira, ranging from relaxing and rejuvenating holidays to tours designed to challenge and motivate the most daring adventurers.
If you can't find a trip that suits your needs or dates, ask us about our custom tours – we can arrange weeks for schools, birthdays and groups. We are here to offer you a wonderful swimming experience and an unforgettable trip. Each tour has a selection of dives, some of which will be able to challenge you and others that will undoubtedly inspire you.
The list of health benefits of seawater is immense. Swimming in colder waters is good for blood circulation and strengthens the immune system. On the other hand, regular swimming, especially over long distances, tends to make people stronger and more agile.
It also boosts mood, and can be considered a natural medicine, as it promotes that incredible sense of well-being that water sports practitioners know so well – outdoor swimming is even being tested as an alternative to depression medications.
Naturally. Swimming outdoors is a unique experience, and you may have the privilege of being accompanied by wildlife and underwater landscapes that most swimmers do not have the opportunity to see. Our swimmers have had the pleasure of swimming with several species of fish, turtles, dolphins, rays, sea lions and even whales! At the bottom of the sea and on the rocks, you can also easily see starfish, sea urchins, our limpets and the beautiful crabs of Madeira.
While the vast majority of our swimmers swim Crawl (freestyle), you'll actually be able to swim in the style of swim you're most comfortable with – breaststroke, backstroke and, if you're fit, even butterfly.
No problem! Swimming in open water in Madeira has a great advantage, in addition to those already mentioned here – it is that the average water temperature is quite pleasant and varies throughout the year, roughly between 19ºC and 25ºC, which makes it ideal for swimming without an isothermal suit.
As for the rest of the equipment, you will only need to have a bathing suit, glasses, sunscreen and a signal buoy (the latter we can borrow). All swimmers will receive a swim cap from us as a gift.
In case of longer swimming experiences, such as travel, or that involve walking (by trails, for example), it is recommended to wear comfortable clothes and shoes appropriate to the event.
Of course! We are all capable of overcoming our fears, which can also exist in open water – whether due to the size of the ocean, the sense of the unknown, the perception of depth, the waves, the currents, the marine life, or other. Our experienced team is ready to welcome, guide and reassure you on what will be a safe and unforgettable adventure.
The activities promoted by us are accompanied by experienced guides and holders of a first aid course. In addition, there will always be the possibility of hiring at least one support kayak. In group and longer duration experiences, in addition to kayaking, there will also be a support boat.
Yes, everyone can swim as they prefer. We only ask that you inform the team when booking the activity.
Swimming training: In the case of individual training, the same swimmers of any level or pace of swimming may participate; In the case of group training, participants will of course be integrated into groups of a similar level.
Swim trips: In the case of longer duration experiences and trips, swimmers will also be grouped according to their swim level.
Personal or liability insurance is not mandatory. However, and in case you have to travel to Madeira, it is advisable to have insurance coverage that covers any unforeseen events such as cancellation of the trip, loss of luggage. On the other hand, liability insurance can also be useful. All activities include personal accident insurance.
