The Dolomites, known for their stunning natural beauty, also bear witness to the tumultuous events of World War I. The mountain range served as a battleground between Italian and Austro-Hungarian forces during the conflict, leaving behind a legacy of war-torn landscapes and poignant historical sites.

One of the most notable World War I sites in the Dolomites is the Open Air Museum of the Great War, located in the Lagazuoi area. Here, visitors can explore the remains of trenches, tunnels, and fortifications that once played a crucial role in the mountain warfare of the conflict. The museum offers a sobering glimpse into the harsh realities faced by soldiers on both sides of the front lines.

Another significant site is the Tre Cime di Lavaredo area, where remnants of military installations and fortifications can still be found scattered amidst the rugged terrain. The imposing peaks served as strategic vantage points for artillery and observation posts during the war, and today, they stand as silent witnesses to the struggles and sacrifices of those who fought in the mountains.

Visiting these World War I sites in the Dolomites provides a poignant reminder of the human cost of war and offers an opportunity to reflect on the region's turbulent history. Amidst the breathtaking natural beauty of the mountains, visitors can pay tribute to the soldiers who once fought and died amidst these rugged landscapes, ensuring that their memory lives on for future generations.

Manuela

Hi, my name is Manuela, I was born in the beautiful valley of Val Badia, which is in the heart of the Italian Dolomites. I studied tourism economy and I've been in the tourism business ever since. In 2018 I decided to open my tour operator Info Dolomites to provide our guests from all over the world with ultimate experiences in my homeland and above all, to make them feel at home. To fulfill that dream, I asked my long-time friend Simona, originally from Venice, to be on my side and work together.

We aim to provide tailor-made tours that allow you to get the best, but not the usual, of this magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site. You can visit our website for some of the tours we've designed, but regardless of the route you choose, each will be tailored to your interests and preferences, resulting in memorable experiences!
